Ratzia® Blocks

Category: Brand:
  • Ready-to-use block bait (PT14) for controlling Norway rats (indoor and outdoor areas, sewers)
  • Active ingredient: difenacoum (anticoagulant) – usually effective after 4-10 days
  • Only for professional/commercial users or licensed pest controllers (depending on country)

Product description: Ratzia® Blocks is a ready-to-use block bait for the control of Norway rats. For use indoors, around buildings and in sewers – the latter only by trained professional users or licensed pest controllers.

Mode of action

The active ingredient difenacoum belongs to the group of anticoagulants. It inhibits blood clotting and leads to internal bleeding. A single ingestion of a sufficient quantity may be sufficient to kill the insect; the effect usually occurs after approx. 4-10 days. The bait contains a bittering agent to reduce the risk of accidental ingestion by humans and pets. If the product is ineffective, the marketing authorization holder must be informed.

User categories

DE: For trained professional users. AT: For professional users and licensed pest controllers.

Application regulations

Before applying bait, determine the rodent species, preferred locations, cause of infestation and extent of infestation. Remove easily accessible food sources and drinking troughs. Place bait in the immediate vicinity where rodents have been observed (e.g. rodent paths, nesting sites, feeding sites, holes, burrows).

General information on placement

  • Protect the bait from the weather (snow, rain) and do not place it in areas at risk of flooding.
  • Replace bait if it is soiled or damaged by water.
  • During inspection visits, search the area for dead rodents and dispose of them properly.

Controls and duration

At the beginning, check the baiting points at least on the 5th day and then weekly. Permanent baiting is not permitted in Austria; in Germany only possible under strict conditions (see information sheet).

Bait stations and accessibility

Bait stations must be used. A design without tamper-proof bait stations is only permitted in areas that are inaccessible to children and non-target animals (e.g. closed cable trays, cavities in walls). In Austria only permitted for licensed pest controllers without bait stations.

Special application locations

Around buildings: Do not apply the product directly into the soil (e.g. in rodent burrows or holes).

Open area: Place bait to minimize exposure to non-target animals and children. Cover/seal entrances to rodent burrows after placement to prevent entry to the surface. Collect spilled bait, bait residue and dead rodents and dispose of according to local requirements. Place bait deep into the soil and cover the area again; do not use in the rain. In Austria only permitted for licensed pest controllers.

Sewers: Apply bait in such a way that it does not come into contact with water and is not washed away. First check after 14 days, then every 2-3 weeks. In Austria only permitted for licensed pest controllers.

Application rate

Norway rats: max. 200 g per bait station, offer at a distance of 5-10 m.

Safety and usage instructions

Read and follow the label, instruction sheet and all information supplied before use. Place product out of reach of children, birds, pets, livestock and other non-target animals. Prevent the product from coming into contact with food, drinks, animal feed, kitchen utensils and preparation surfaces. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using the product. Wash hands and exposed skin after use.

Wear suitable protective gloves (e.g. HYGOSTAR® NITRIL PROFESSIONAL 0.4 mm) or use tools such as tongs when handling the product, collecting bait residues and disposing of carcasses. Do not allow bait residues and empty containers to enter watercourses or drains. When placing near bodies of water, ensure that the bait cannot come into contact with water. The bait is dangerous for wild animals.
